The Slow Art of Tallow

Tallow is the foundation of every balm and bar we make.  From the very first step, we’re intentional.  We don’t buy it pre-made or send it away to be processed.  We hand-render it ourselves, slowly and carefully in our studio.  It’s not the easiest way, but it keeps tallow’s natural goodness intact - because when something touches your family’s skin, every detail matters.

Why We Start with Certified Organic, Grass-Fed Suet

We use BioGro-certified organic, grass-fed beef suet - fat from cattle raised without synthetic hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, or GM feed.  This means cleaner, richer fat that’s safer for your skin and higher in vitamins A, D, E & K, plus balanced omega-3 and 6 fatty acids that support repair, hydration, and protection.  It’s the kind of fat that makes skincare not just gentle, but truly nourishing.

Our Gentle Rendering Process

Rendering is the slow melting of suet to draw out the clean, golden oil within.  Done over low heat, it preserves nutrients and creates creamy tallow that melts beautifully into skin.
We render in small batches - no bleaches, no deodorisers, no shortcuts.  Just slow-crafted tallow that nourishes and restores every time.

Behind the Scenes

Each batch is treated with care using only pure materials:

Celtic Sea Salt:  hand-harvested and sun-dried, rich in over 80 trace minerals to draw out impurities while keeping nutrients intact.

Unbleached Natural Filters:  compostable and chlorine-free, removing fine particles without stripping the tallow.

Organic Cheesecloth:  untreated cotton so nothing synthetic touches the final balm.

Why We Keep It In-House

Outsourcing would be faster, but we’d lose what makes it special.  Rendering in-house gives us full control and transparency - from farm to jar.  It protects nutrient quality and integrity without chemical refining or industrial shortcuts.  It takes time, but that’s the only way to make skincare that truly nourishes.
